Q&A with Dr James Hawkins

Dr James Hawkins

Tell us a bit about yourself

When I was younger, I was fascinated by what made a ‘good’ life. Later I studied philosophy, before switching to medicine and graduating as a doctor in 1975.

As well as working in hospitals, I trained in various forms of psychotherapy, meditation, complementary medicine, and group work.

I now continue to work full time as a psychotherapist, wellbeing advisor, and most recently psychedelic orientation/integration specialist.

Where are you from?

Edinburgh, Scotland.

What one piece of advice would you give to someone who was scared of opening up about their sexual issues?

Sharing with somebody you can trust is already potentially very therapeutic.

What do you love most about your job?

Caring for people.

Tell us something that not many people know about you…

After qualifying as a medical doctor, I worked for a while as a full time yoga teacher.
