If the issue is that you go soft before you want to, this is known as erectile dysfunction (ED). And if staying hard is what’s stopping you from lasting longer during sex, Viagra could help you keep your erection, and could therefore help you last longer in the bedroom.
But bear in mind: Viagra won’t help with psychological ED – only erection problems caused by physical issues.
If the issue is that you cum quicker than you’d like, this is known as premature ejucation (PE), and Viagra won’t help you last longer here. It helps you get hard, but doesn’t delay ejaculation, so it won’t help you last longer before you orgasm.
In a nutshell:
If going soft during sex is your issue, Viagra might be able to help you last longer. Here’s how:
“PDE5 inhibitors relax the blood vessels in your penis, allowing blood to flow in more easily. They help blood get to your penis and stay there. So, because the pills help your penis retain blood, they can help your erections last longer.”
Dr Matthew Chan, Medical Doctor
Just to make sure we’re not getting our wires crossed – Viagra can help your erections last longer, but it can’t delay your ejaculation.
Premature ejaculation is when you cum before penetration or stimulation, or very quickly during penetration or stimulation.
There’s no official time that counts as ‘premature’, but it’s usually considered to be premature if it’s sooner than someone would like (this could be the man or their partner).
On average, it takes between 5 and 7 minutes for a man to orgasm, but up to 39% of men say they cum quicker than they’d like to during sex.
For the record, here at Mojo, we don’t love the phrase ‘premature ejaculation’, because it sounds like you’re cumming ‘too soon.’ Remember: sex isn’t an exam, and you can’t ‘fail’.
PE can be caused by a whole range of psychological factors, including:
Or it may be something physical, like:
Premature ejaculation can also be caused, funnily enough, by erectile dysfunction. Understandably, if you’re worried about losing your erection, you might end up finding yourself rushing to ejaculate while you’re still hard (this could be consciously or subconsciously).
There’s not enough evidence to confirm that Viagra or other ED pills are an effective treatment for premature ejaculation, or that it should be prescribed to help you last longer during sex if you’d like to delay when you cum.
However, some guys might find that taking Viagra makes them feel more confident in their erections. This psychological shift could mean less sexual performance anxiety, which may indirectly help with PE.
With that said, there are lots of other tried and tested solutions to handle premature ejaculation and lasting longer in bed.
If your PE is caused by something psychological like SPA or feeling nervous in the bedroom, Mojo is here to help you tackle these root causes so you can enjoy more confident sex. You can find out more here.
If your PE is caused by something physical, you should firstly make a trip to your doctor.
We’ve listed out what Viagra is and isn’t good for:
“Viagra is designed to help men with physical ED – it can help them get and maintain erections if something physical is getting in the way. But it’s not designed to delay ejaculation, so won’t help you last longer when it comes to orgasming.”
Dr Matthew Chan, Medical Doctor
If you lose your erections before you want to (and if this is because of physical issues, not psychological ones), then yes – you can use Viagra to help you last longer.
However, there are many other effective treatments out there to help you get consistently stronger and longer-lasting erections (rather than a one-off erection after popping a pill).
If you’ve got premature ejaculation problems, then no, you shouldn't use Viagra to last longer. But don’t worry – we’ve got loads of options for you below.

Remember: if your ED is physical, Viagra could help you get a one-time erection, but won’t get to the root of the cause. If your ED is psychological, there are better treatment options out there.
